Let's Do This!

I am going to try doing this serial thing!

(For those of you who read the interest post, I'm doing something slightly different for the set-up than what I described.)

The basic idea here is this:

I'm going to start writing a web serial using rainbowfic prompt lists, with reader input on which prompts to use next to help me keep going. To start out, I am going to take ideas and suggestions for the story premise.

Before we get started, some information and instructions:

• I want to do what I call "contemporary science-fantasy", which is basically "set in modern day and crazy shit happens that is usually - but not always - caused by advanced science/technology". Supernatural abilities are good. Typical Urban Fantasy elements, less so.


• Examples of the genre: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Artemis Fowl, some episodes of Doctor Who.


• By "story premise", I do not mean a plot summary. I am not looking for plot twists or plot details, but rather pieces of a general idea of the starting point.


• Example of a story premise: "[Main Character] is thrilled about going away for her first year at college. But when strange things start happening around campus, she starts to realize there's more to the school than she thought." (This one is really general, but you get the idea.)


• I plan to put up the first prompt post on Monday. This post will remain active until then.

Okay, now that that's out of the way, here's what we're going to do!

As a comment to this post, give ONE suggested point for the premise. A bizarre string of events, a mysterious stranger, moving to a new town, hitting a Norse god with your truck, that sort of thing. In addition, include
THREE of the colors listed below
ONE suggestion for a serial title (or a part of the title, or structure of the title)
and ONE character-background detail for the main character (number of siblings, educational level, unfortunate incident involving a dog and a hair dryer, etc. etc. etc.).

The colors are prompt lists for the rainbowfic community and are going to be the driving force behind this story. You can base your color picks on whatever you want: the name of the color, the theme of the list, the actual prompts on the list, drawing slips of paper out of a hat...

I'll be using the five colors that get the most votes as the starting colors for the project. (The community limits you to five active colors maximum.) In the case of a two-plus-way tie for color #5, I'll exercise my own judgement to select it.
