Reading/writing participation question for everyone
tl;dr version: If I were to do a reader-input web-serial thingie, would I actually get reader input?
So I've been wanting to play with that
rainbowfic community for a while - I have a whole bunch of potential colors and materials and stuff picked out and in a nice Scrivener project and everything. But I keep getting stalled on interest/motivation/ideas/DECISIONS.
SO, I had an idea.
First, I'd do a three-part story set-up:
For the MC and the premise, I'd either go find a decent-looking random generator and randomly generate one of each, or I'd have you guys give me character traits or descriptors and story premise elements (Probably a limit of X per person, with X depending on how many people would want to play) which I'd combine into coherent single ideas.
The third part of the setup would be a list of colors from rainbowfic. Everyone "playing" would pick three colors, and the five colors that get the most votes will be the ones I start with.
Then, the actual story-writing would go thusly:
Every week on whichever weekday I pick, I'd put up a prompt post with links to the active colors for the story and a list of which prompts in those colors have been used. Anyone who's reading/playing could then post a comment with one of the unused prompts from one of my active colors that they want to see me use that week, and/or a style or material.
(You can see what exactly the colors, styles, materials etc. are on
rainbowlists now if you want, but if there is enough interest for me to do this, there would be plenty of info/links in the prompt posts.)
The prompt post would be active for... some duration of time; I dunno, probably something like 24-48 hours. Maybe longer? Then, I write the next part of the story, with the restriction that I have to use at least one reader-suggested prompt.
Finally, I'd post that segment on the pre-determined day of the week for posting story updates.
I know I'd be posting the story on DW so that the parts get posted to the community, but I might also crosspost to my personal writing blog. Haven't decided yet.
