Of the Law, Of the Gods...
A snippet of conversation relevant to the recent RP Lyn and I are in the middle of.
Lyn, you may or may not want to wait to read until after Cya and Leo talk. ;)
"If I'm being completely honest with you, I think we need a third name. A third group. We already are one, here in Cloverleaf."
"But you follow the Law." Jeska frowned.
"So do you. That's how you Belong to me, right? No, hear me out. There are two groups, right? And each of them is named for what they think makes them superior to the others, and to humanity. So the Children of the Gods - well, they consider themselves divinely, innately superior by their lineage."
Jeska's ears twitched, but he nodded; that part, at least, he followed.
"Then you have the Children of the Law. They consider themselves to be superior because they follow the Law - in word, and arguably in spirit. They think that the Law binding them is a sign of their superiority, both to humanity - who they're supposed to, I don't know, take care of or something - and to the Children of the Gods, who they think are arrogant selfish bastards. Pot, kettle, black," he muttered ruefully. "At least so far as most of the fullbloods I've run into."
Jeska nodded again, more because he knew he was supposed to than because he was completely following.
"But here, at Cloverleaf, we don't really think of ourselves as superior for either of those reasons." Leo looked thoughtfully at Jeska. "Obviously, we think our way is better, or we wouldn't follow it, but... If I had to put a word to it, I would say it was society. It's the interactions, the way even with our disagreements, we look out for each other. We could call ourselves, I don't know. The Children of the People. Because it's not whether we're fae or human, bound by the Law or descended from gods. It's being a member of the people - of a mutually beneficial society - that makes us better."
