It was the sudden blaring of car horns that caught his attention. Not just one, but three or four all at the same time. Leofric (and pretty much everyone else) turned to see what was going on.
Some idiot was running across traffic is what was going on. A pretty girl, maybe about his age with bright red hair, and obviously in a big hurry to get somewhere. Their eyes met and he realized in some confusion that "somewhere" was right at him. Through him? He turned, expecting to see someone or something behind him that she was looking at instead. Nothing, just people walking by and losing interest in the suicidal jaywalker.
The girl, he realized, had just stopped, right in front of him. So he had been her target after all... Someone from school, maybe? That felt right, but... no. Maybe she thought he was someone else?
"Um..." He was going to apologize for not knowing who she was, really, but just then he noticed a couple cops heading towards them - no, towards her, they were looking at her. And one was on his radio, which... that was weird just for ticketing a jaywalker? But it was none of his business; he didn't know her, maybe she was a criminal, or... or a--
Something in his mind flipped, like a switch, and his train of thought was left forgotten as he grabbed her wrist and started running.
