Noah 3

previous

Noah was feeling much more optimistic about things as they ate the pizza - even if it was in silence. Being permitted to set out dishes felt like a small victory; another turn of events he would never have expected. But if his new Master was letting him do things, that put him at least one step closer to letting him stay for the full six months. And he got to clean up the dishes, too; another small and hopeful victory.

After that... well, things started to get complicated again. Simon grabbed the gift bag from the kitchen and carried it out into the living room as Noah was loading the dishwasher, and Noah quickly realized that his reluctant Master was intending to leave him to his own devices.

The only problem with that was Noah didn't know what to do. He would have expected to have some position or place to wait in until his Mistress or Master called for him, but as things stood, he didn't even know where the guest room was. And he was afraid of disturbing Simon with questions and jeopardizing what small progress he'd made so far. That left him with the option of exploring the apartment to find the room, which, well, he didn't want to overstep a line and, again, jeopardize his position.

He hovered in the doorway to the living room, unwilling to commit to either option and therefore stuck.

"You can come in." Simon's voice from the living room sounded exasperated and Noah's stomach sank. You would think not taking action would have been the safest route our at least holding pattern, but apparently not.

Either way. Since he had gotten permission, after all, he walked back into the living room. Simon was sitting on the sofa with a book, which he looked up from as Noah entered.

"Feel free to watch TV or whatever you want. It won't bother me."

That was a surprise, and Noah made a note of it for the future. "Thank you, sir. Could I ask where the guest room you mentioned is located?"

"What? Oh, shit." Simon put his book down, looking chagrined. "Yeah, of course, let me show you."

Noah had to admit, he was a little relieved by that reaction. It was such a normal reaction to forgetting something, and Simon hadn't gotten even a little annoyed. He wasn't going to draw any conclusions - not at this point - but maybe his new Master's temper wasn't as bad as it had seemed. After all, being given a sub as a surprise gift when you don't want one at all was enough to throw off anyone.

He followed Simon back into the apartment, taking note of the locations of the doors.

"This is the bathroom, here." Simon pushed the door open, revealing a nice but not overly large bathroom, complete with shower. "And down here," he continued, moving down the hall to another door and opening it, "is the guest room, which I guess is your room for a while. Not like I have guests anyway. My room's there," he added and pointed.

"Thank you, sir." Noah waited until Simon impatiently gestured him in to step into the guest room.

It looked much the same as the living room had, decorated in a kind of comfortable minimalism. A large bed, although Noah suspected it was a typical size from the type of furniture they'd had in the training rooms, made up in black-trimmed white coverings, with typical bedroom furniture to match. An abstract geometric painting in blue and yellow hanging over the dresser was the only piece of decoration.

Not like I have guests anyway, his Master had said. "If you do need this room for a guest, I'll make myself scarce."

"Not likely," Simon muttered, then shook his head and changed the subject. "You need clothes. I doubt mine'll be big enough, I'll have to order something."

Simon voluntarily deciding to buy him anything, even something as basic as clothing, was possibly the best sign yet that this might not all end in a giant trash fire for him. Noah didn't want to discourage that - but on the other hand, he didn't want Simon to feel put too far out of his way, or he might double down on the resentment. Thinking quickly, he settled on avoiding possible resentment and glanced over at the other man; he was short, and slim, but so was Noah.

"I think could manage with something old of yours, sir. We likely wear similar sizes?"

Simon looked for a moment like he was going to argue, but instead frowned and glanced over Noah. "It's worth a shot. Make yourself comfortable, I'll see what I have."

"Thank you, sir," Noah said again as his new Master turned and left the room. None of his training had prepared him for this kind of a situation... but maybe he could still make it work.
