Dr. Cal Stein Teaches Biology
a brief sketch (no not the drawing kind)
"Good morning, class. Today's lesson will be a continuation of anatomy." Dr. Calcifer Stein stood at the front of the science lab and looks out over the students, wearing his usual unreadable expression. If he noticed the cringing of a few of the younger students, he showed no sign of it. "Do any of you recall what we studied yesterday?"
A moment of silence followed the question before a boy with green slit-pupilled eyes tentatively raised a hand.
Dr. Stein nodded to him, granting him permission to speak.
"Um. Wings, doctor."
"Very good." Dr. Stein nodded again, placing a box with a hamster on the desk, then placing another box with a shrew next to it. "And Sylva did an excellent job demonstrating for us. Now, what do you think we will be studying today?"
The students looked at the boxes, then at each other, while feather-haired Sylva folded her wings tightly against her back and tried her best to be invisible. No one gave an answer.
Dr. Stein tched in disappointment and placed a third box on the table, this one containing a snake. "Teeth, students." He started laying out dentistry equipment on the desk as well. "Today we will be studying dental anatomy, and I will need three volunteers."
Several of the students reflexively put their hands over their mouths.
